HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The first post-primary TV attack ads in the Pennsylvania governor's race are flying.
Republican Gov. Tom Corbett's campaign began airing an ad attacking Democrat Tom Wolf on Friday, the same day a group backed by billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer began attacking Corbett.
The Corbett campaign ad focuses on Wolf's service as revenue secretary while then-Gov. Ed Rendell was seeking higher taxes on trash hauling, electricity use, sales and oil company profits.
Steyer's ad criticizes Corbett for opposing higher taxes on the booming natural gas industry and fighting requests for information about new plans to allow drilling underneath state parks and forests.
Both ads are running statewide.
Corbett's campaign calls Steyer's ad "light on facts and heavy on empty rhetoric." Wolf's campaign says Corbett is trying to distract attention from his own poor record.
The election is Nov. 4.
