HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A new bishop is poised to take over the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.
The installation of the Rev. Ronald Gainer is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at St. Patrick Cathedral in the city. He is Harrisburg's 11th bishop.
Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput will preside over the installation ceremony, which is expected to be attended by numerous bishops and priests as well as Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the papal representative to the United States. It is scheduled to be followed by a Mass and a vespers service at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Harrisburg.
The Harrisburg diocese encompasses 15 counties.
The 66-year-old Gainer previously served as bishop in Lexington, Ky., for 11 years. He succeeds Bishop Joseph McFadden, who died in May.
