PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a man after a home invasion in northeast Philadelphia.
Police said two masked men forced a couple inside their home in the Northwood neighborhood at about 12:45 a.m. Friday. Captain George Fuchs told reporters that surveillance cameras indicate that the men were waiting for the couple to come home.
Police said an officer was sent to investigate a burglary alarm set off by the suspects. They said the female resident was ordered to tell the officer everything was all right, but she managed to signal that something was wrong.
Fuchs said the suspect pointed a weapon at the officer and fired, but he knocked it aside and fired multiple times, killing the suspect. The other man fled and is being sought.
